HILSA FISH RECIPE - HILSA ROSA


This is an authentic Hilsa alias Tenualosa ilisha preparation that can be served with hot steamed rice or kichuri in your lunch table. The fish is very popular among the people of South Asia and in the Middle East, but is a special dish for Bengalis. It is considered as the national fish of Bangladesh.

Nutrition Value – In 100 grams of Hilsa Fish, there are energy, moisture, protein, fat, carbohydrates, fibre, calcium, iron and phosphorus.

PREPARATION TIME - 10 minutes
COOKING TIME – 15 minutes
SERVED AS - 4 PERSONS

INGREDIENTS

Hilsa fish – 500 gm (4 pieces)
Drum stick (sojne data) – 50 gm chopped
Jack fruit seeds boiled ( kathal bichi) – 1 cup
Poppy seed paste - 2 tbsp
Black mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Garlic florets -6
Whole dried red chili – 4
Turmeric powder – 1 tbsp
Black cumin seeds 1 tsp
Mustard oil ½ cup
Salt to taste

PROCESS

Marinate fish pieces with turmeric and salt
Paste together poppy seeds, mustard seeds, chili and garlic florets
Heat oil in a pan, add black cumin seeds, add drum stick and jack fruit seeds
Add salt and turmeric powder
Cook for few minutes, add one large cup of water and cover the pan
When drum sticks will become tender, add spice paste
You can add little amount of water at that time
Add fish and cook for 5 -8 minutes
Garnish with green chilies
